Category:Brick buildings in Lazio

[edit]

Hi Deltaspace, on my complaint you answered, you had corrected the spelling. But there is (was) no spelling error in the title of this Category.--Ulamm (talk) 20:55, 19 December 2025 (UTC)Reply

@Ulamm: in the original title there was a word "buldings", I corrected it to "buildings". Deltaspace42 (talk) 21:10, 19 December 2025 (UTC)Reply

"in" vs. "from"

[edit]

I believe what you did with Category:Reliefs from Myanmar was wrong. For example, File:Jadeite cabochon from Myanmar - Burke Museum.jpg and File:Jadeite rose disk from Myanmar - Burke Museum.jpg are both from Myanmar, but were photographed in Seattle. - Jmabel ! talk 01:07, 5 January 2026 (UTC)Reply

@Jmabel, hello! Yeah, I realized my mistake, I will revert my edits. Deltaspace42 (talk) 09:19, 5 January 2026 (UTC)Reply
@Jmabel, I fixed my mistake and added descriptions in categories of type "<Objects> from <country>" which tell how they are different from categories "<Objects> in <country>", so that someone else doesn't erroneously merge these categories as I did. Dude

[edit]

You really need to think before you act. If you want to force U.S. spellings on Australians, and then specify the "universality principal", then you need to start to think about what makes U.S. spelling so "universal". Because I could reasonably then argue that the correct spelling is the English/Australian spelling.

A bit of thought would have shown that for spellings like "organisations" vs "organizations" you are better off using the regions spelling variant.

As a fellow Australian, I support Bidgee. If you try to enforce U.S. spelling on me, I find it arrogant and imperialistic. Something the U.S. seems to be sliding towards. - Chris.sherlock2 (talk) 15:48, 13 January 2026 (UTC)Reply

@Chris.sherlock2, I've just withdrawn my nomination seeing that the consensus is against using the US spelling in these categories: Commons:Categories for discussion/2026/01/Category:Organisations of Australia. And I started new discussion about the United Kingdom where I suggested renaming to use the UK spelling here: Commons:Categories for discussion/2026/01/Category:Organizations of the United Kingdom. If you want, you can leave a comment there.
My goal was not to enforce the US spelling, I am not even from the US. I just wanted the consistency in the naming. Since you and other users are against renaming Category:Organisations of Australia, I went to the other direction and suggested renaming Category:Organizations of the United Kingdom in order to establish consistency.
I now know that I should start a discussion before initiating controversial renames. Sorry if I offended you. Deltaspace42 (talk) 16:24, 13 January 2026 (UTC)Reply

Thank you!

[edit]

Hello, just wanted to leave a big thank you for your amazing work on solving Categories for Discussion threads (CfD).
This is an important backlog that has been in a big need of somebody like you to go through and I don't know why nobody else seems to have done this the last years to a comparable extent when it comes to CfDs on my Watchlist but it's great to see somebody taking at it now. Please always make sure to fully implement the solution when closing CfDs; I noticed at least one case where 3 categories where named that had to be removed but you only removed two when closing. If you have any ideas on how to get more users to do what you're doing, please let me know.

In the hopes you keep at it, Prototyperspective (talk) 19:11, 14 January 2026 (UTC)Reply

@Prototyperspective, hello! Thank you for your kind words! After closing CfD, I immediately merge/rename/etc. the discussed category (subcategories), but there are categories where I didn't fully implement the solution:
  • Category:Female actors by country - after closing the discussion and renaming part of the Category:Female actors tree I got to this "by country" category and realized just how much work is yet to be done, and I think that it should be completed by some bot, but I don't know where and how to do it.
  • Category:AI-generated images by subject - after closing the discussion and renaming several categories I realized that deep in the category tree there are too many categories to be renamed. Furthermore, some categories, including those that were mentioned in the discussion (e.g. photographs, art), don't really need to be renamed because I don't see ambiguity mentioned in the discussion, so I stopped.
I would place notice (tag) in these categories with something like "consensus was reached to do X, and volunteers are needed to complete it fully", but I don't know whether a template for it exists, and how to do it properly. Deltaspace42 (talk) 19:34, 14 January 2026 (UTC)Reply

It's archived now but I'm planning to create a wish in the Community Wishlist so this could be supported again by people who see value in such a tool. For now, you could maybe request this task (and maybe other tasks like it) at Commons:Bots/Work requests. I would place notice (tag) in these categories with[…] I don't think a template (or a practice) for this exists. Better to add a category to the CfD page like Category:Closed CfDs waiting for completion of solution or sth like that. Prototyperspective (talk) 19:48, 14 January 2026 (UTC)Reply

A beer for you!

[edit]
At at your many rename requests you deserve a naitonal clod beeer from Gremany. If you like drinking beer, otherwise just imagine something else. (Typos are intentional) Best regards, זיו「Ziv」For love letters and other notes 19:05, 30 January 2026 (UTC)Reply
@Ziv, hello! Thanks for the beer! Deltaspace42 (talk) 19:06, 30 January 2026 (UTC)Reply
Haha enjoy! You found some hilarious typos. זיו「Ziv」For love letters and other notes 19:30, 30 January 2026 (UTC)Reply
Hello @Deltaspace42.
It's me again.
It's not the quantity that matters, but the accuracy. Please work a little more precisely and slowly, check your suggestions more carefully, then you should notice typos like these in File:Phoenix-Musical Intrument Museum-Taylo Swift Les Pual guitar.jpg or File:Phoenix-Musical Intrument Museum-Elavis Presely exhibit-2.jpg. It is pointless to correct only the word "instrument" if the other typos like "Taylo Swift Les Pual" and "Elavis Presely" are ignored. The file would then have to be moved again, and we'd like to avoid that. Furthermore, I'd like to suggest that for meaningless names that contain a spelling mistake, you could consider how to improve the filename. Even if a spelling mistake is corrected, the name remains meaningless. I remember some files from Fez, Morocco. They probably could have been named better and more clearly. @Ziv, ok, I will be careful next time, thanks! Deltaspace42 (talk) 17:36, 31 January 2026 (UTC)Reply
Many thanks from my side for your work! Keep on keeping on! Best regards, Msb (talk) 16:06, 5 February 2026 (UTC)Reply

Hi Deltaspace42, you're now a filemover. When moving files please respect the following advice:

  • Use the CommonsDelinker link in the {{Rename}} template to order a bot to replace all occurrences of the old title with the new one. Or, if there was no rename-request, please use the Move & Replace-tab.
  • Please leave a redirect behind unless you have a valid reason not to do so. Other projects, including those using InstantCommons, might be using the file even though they don't show up in the global usage. Deleting the redirects would break their file references. Please see this section of the file rename guideline for more information.
  • Please know and follow the file rename guidelines.

That was fast

[edit]

Thank you for moving the three files with a "^" in their names so quickly, amazingly quickly. I noticed you then edited the enWiki article which used them. I was surprised this was not a bot driven process. Seems like a lot of hard work for a typo! 🇵🇸‍🇺🇦 Timtrent 🇺🇦 talk to me 🇺🇦‍🇵🇸 16:28, 1 April 2026 (UTC)Reply

@Timtrent, hello! The script automatically replaces names on enWiki (and other wikis where the file is used), so I had to press only one button and the script did everything on its own. Deltaspace42 (talk) 16:30, 1 April 2026 (UTC)Reply
That is good to hear. It looks like less hard work, but still requires an eye for detail 🇵🇸‍🇺🇦 Timtrent 🇺🇦 talk to me 🇺🇦‍🇵🇸 16:32, 1 April 2026 (UTC)Reply

Autopatrol given

[edit]

Hello. I just wanted to let you know that I have granted autopatrol rights to your account; the reason for this is that I believe you are sufficiently trustworthy and experienced to have your contributions automatically marked as "reviewed". This has no effect on your editing, it is simply intended to make it easier for users that are monitoring Recent changes or Recent uploads to find unproductive edits amidst the productive ones like yours. In addition, the Flickr upload feature and an increased number of batch-uploads in UploadWizard, uploading of freely licensed MP3 files, overwriting files uploaded by others and an increased limit for page renames per minute are now available to you. Thank you. Abzeronow (talk) 01:30, 6 April 2026 (UTC)Reply

Removal of the “Editatona” category

[edit]

Hello, I’m writing to raise a complaint about the mass removal of the categories “Editatona in Mexico” and “Editatona in Spain” that you’ve carried out across dozens of files. Here you can read more about what an “editatona” is and how it differs from a conventional edit-a-thon. It is a category in which, based on community consensus, fellow contributors from different countries join together to upload their photos from events taking place around the world. So I will overlook this for now, assuming you do not have all the relevant information, so I will revert your changes and return the files to the categories where they were.

Interestingly, your decision comes after this comments for discussion that you initiated and in which I am participating. I’d like to think it’s a complete coincidence. ProtoplasmaKid (talk) 05:32, 8 April 2026 (UTC)Reply

@ProtoplasmaKid, hello! I was just going through categories, and I thought that it was accidental duplicates and decided to merge them. Also because I saw some files with "editatona" in "edit-a-thons" category and thought there was no difference at all between them. Sorry! Deltaspace42 (talk) 08:49, 8 April 2026 (UTC)Reply
I mean, when I looked at category, there were also duplicates with "Wikimedia edit-a-thons in X" and "Edit-a-thons in X" and I just assumed it was a mess with duplicates and merged them. It would make sense to add some notice on "Editatona" categories saying how is it different from "Edit-a-thons". Deltaspace42 (talk) 08:56, 8 April 2026 (UTC)Reply
Interestingly, your decision comes after this comments for discussion that you initiated and in which I am participating. I’d like to think it’s a complete coincidence. - Not really a coincidence, I was just actively going through categories and merging duplicates; when I encountered categories where it would require too many changes and might be controversial, I started discussions. Should have started discussions about "Editatonas" also, instead of just merging them. Deltaspace42 (talk) 09:00, 8 April 2026 (UTC)Reply
