Currently in use :

Main camera:

Some useful Open source software:

  • GIMP
  • Qtpfsgui (for HDR)
  • Rawstudio (for RAW formats)
  • Hugin (for panorama stitching)

How to edit, or at least what its best

Best, shot in RAW, to preserve all info. Try always to open in Official sowtware of firm you have. For future edtions in other software save in tiff format. Who start with other software try to start with Neutral or Linear RAW (otherwise when you open RAW they always have some edits in forward, so not to go editing already edited).

in Adobe Camera RAW:

  • Open RAW
  • in Profile click Browse
  • choose Linear, or Adobe Neutral
  • in Tone Curve set Point Curve on Linear
  • in Basic leave contrast, Highligths, Shadows, Whites, Blacks on O (zero)
  • in Detail low Sharpening and Noise Reduction (best to put them off and do it at end of edits in Topaz De Noise or DXO DeepPrime)
  • you could Save for next time in Presets, + Create Preset, name it to "Linear Start"

For Fujifilm (X-Trans sensor) start with Irident X-Transformer for Demosaicing and than edit in other software. For other (Bayer filter: Oly, Pana, CaNikon, Sony,...) you can use Irident Transformer to export RAW to Linear DNG. So you skip doing same in Adobe Camera RAW.

RAW, DNG are 16 bit. If you start from JPEG (8 bit), or HEIF (10 bit) you can put in Adobe PS to 16 bits and than edit.

For Olympus users i strongly recommend OM Workspace (ex Olympus Viewer), it give much better colors than Adobe PS. For further Photshoping export it in tiff format (Exif-tiff to keep EXIF infos).

At the end (saving to JPEG) i prefer AdobeRGB instead of sRGB due to wider spectrum.
