GNbMc

[edit]

GNbMc has never been warned before today, isn't it a bit soon for "end of copyvios"?
FYI: the user claims to be w:Glenn McQuaid. - Alexis Jazz ping plz 05:31, 4 April 2026 (UTC)Reply

@Alexis Jazz: Maybe. I did wait until the 4th UTC. Anyway, the user wrote Special:Diff/1191358508 and seems to be learning.   — 🇺🇦Jeff G. please ping or talk to me🇺🇦 11:57, 4 April 2026 (UTC)Reply
It's just seems odd to say "you uploaded copyvio despite requests from editors not to do so" when they hadn't uploaded anything after their first DR notification. {{End of copyvios}} says "It should not be used for first offenders in accordance with COM:AGF. {{File copyright status}} may be a better notice for them."
User seems to be learning indeed, so it's all working out.
Could you please add "UTC" to Commons:Editor's index to Commons? I'm guessing User Talk.. Copyviowarning? - Alexis Jazz ping plz 14:10, 4 April 2026 (UTC)Reply
@Alexis Jazz: Universal Time, Coordinated, using (I believe) the French order for the international abbreviation for Coordinated Universal Time, which evolved from Great Britain's GMT (Greenwich Mean Time). See en:UTC#Etymology. Because I use (Eastern) local time for my editing here, I have to manually convert from local time to UTC for use with {{Xs}}, and sometimes I forget to do that and mark my conversion with summary "UTC". Is Special:Diff/1191434957 sufficient?   — 🇺🇦Jeff G. please ping or talk to me🇺🇦 14:21, 4 April 2026 (UTC)Reply
I don't really understand, you said I did wait until the 4th UTC.
You waited for the fourth Universal Time, Coordinated? Am I missing something? - Alexis Jazz ping plz 14:42, 4 April 2026 (UTC)Reply
@Alexis Jazz: I waited until the UTC time was on the fourth of April, reference timestamp "12:00, 4 April 2026 (UTC)" in Special:Diff/1191363396. I grew up using local time; I use that when convenient, supplementing with AM or PM for disambiguation. My exposure to email and usenet timestamps decades ago, the Year 2000 problem, and wiki style timestamps in 2006 taught me to be more open minded about representations of time. In a similar vein, I still think in Imperial units like feet, miles, pounds, and gallons for most things, and many of my countrymen here in the US still think the same, as that is how we were brought up. We have so many speed limit signs with no units, and other signs with just MPH (miles per hour), that it would be very expensive to change, even though modern analog speedometers at least show secondary readings KPH (kilometers per hour). I expect that the digital ones can just show KPH if set to do so.   — 🇺🇦Jeff G. please ping or talk to me🇺🇦 15:07, 4 April 2026 (UTC)Reply
I misunderstood "the 4th UTC" as referring to the 4th file deletion tagging warning on their user talk page. Coincidentally, they have 4 file deletion tagging warnings on their talk page. You actually meant the 4th day of the month. The number of deletion tagging warnings seems more relevant than the amount of time that has passed, so my brain misinterpreted what you said. All clear now. - Alexis Jazz ping plz 15:20, 4 April 2026 (UTC)Reply
@Alexis Jazz: FYI, I take "requests from editors not to do so" to include the editors of Main page, COM:L, {{Welcome}}, and {{Copyvionote}} (including me). That might be a more broad interpretation than you were expecting.   — 🇺🇦Jeff G. please ping or talk to me🇺🇦 15:54, 4 April 2026 (UTC)Reply

Admin

Hey mate, have you ever thought of doing an RFA. I think you would be great with the admin tools. I'm not sure but I am thinking of nominating you for adminiship. LuvsMG481 (talk) 14:26, 5 April 2026 (UTC)Reply

@LuvsMG481: Hi again, and thank you for your confidence. I hope that searching User:Jeff G.#Introduction for "RFAs" will bring you a better understanding of the history of this matter.   — 🇺🇦Jeff G. please ping or talk to me🇺🇦 14:40, 5 April 2026 (UTC)Reply
Ok I'm sorry. I don't even know if this wiki is even for me anyway. I contribute stuff but its not being used on EnWiki because of users like Mr.choppers, Sable232 and GaryJAllen reverting despite good faith. LuvsMG481 (talk) 16:52, 7 April 2026 (UTC)Reply

Help me

[edit]

Hello, I am the user you helped remove an image due to copyright issues some time ago. You also advised me on how to use the template to remove that file. However, I have not been able to apply it due to a lack of understanding of it. My intention with this message is to help or advise you with this file, which is also the case with copyright. Letstown (talk) 20:44, 6 April 2026 (UTC)Reply

@Letstown: What do you think is the source?   — 🇺🇦Jeff G. please ping or talk to me🇺🇦 20:50, 6 April 2026 (UTC)Reply
It seems there was a mistake; I found the image using Google Lens and it belonged to the Facebook page of artist, but I tried to find her with the link and it seems she deleted it, so it no longer exists on the internet but it does exist here. Letstown (talk) 00:38, 7 April 2026 (UTC)Reply
@Letstown: Then we can't prove it yet, sorry, but please see Special:Diff/1193134181.   — 🇺🇦Jeff G. please ping or talk to me🇺🇦 09:48, 7 April 2026 (UTC)Reply
